Retrospective jan 2024
Reading Time: 4 minutes

As I gave a tip in #21Days21Tips , let me do a Retrospective for January 2024 for myself

Agile ceremonies are not just important for project but for self too.

Let me share my progress for the 1st sprint i.e. January 2024.

What Went well

  1. Stackoverflow – I contributed 2 answers with respect to Playwright and you can too bit.ly/stackoverflowfortesters

Answer 1 – As i started getting problem while calling API an error related to certificate the whole API suite stopped working and on finding the solution i answered it as my contribution back to stackoverflow

Answer 2 – While i was searching something i landed up where I could help someone as I have solved this problem earlier with selenium where we open a browser with preloaded profile. with  change of language solution generally remains same, so here is my second answer

2.  AI Odysseys Challenge – Microsoft has started a challenge where they offer you to learn AI and implement some solutions without writing any code and in the process to learn AI and get a chance to visit one of the events conducted by MS. I could complete the challenge.  I was among the top 5 in submitting the challenge

3.  Youtube Videos – 12 Videos . AI900 certification i cleared in Dec 2023. I have shared all notes prepared till now in this series bit.ly/cloudandai. Additionally covered how you can get started with on your cloud journey signuping up on Azure and get 16000 INR or USD 200 free

4.  BookGrowth Driven Testing is a book I completed. Its a must for all testers to read to do better testing and automation.

5.  Topmate – Connected with 4 testers who have booked my time and share their concerns and problems. You can book too @ https://topmate.io/gauravkhurana

One of the testimonial from the call. all testimonials are on my topmate profile

“It’s like getting a booster dose to me, it’s pretty good talking with Gaurav the way he answers my questions is concise and clear, and most importantly he does not exaggerate things and imposes the importance of things for us in an approachable way. Thanks, Gaurav for this session.”

  1. Github Check in – Someone asked a question in one of the testing communities and I picked up and wrote and checked in . Writing test first for your program helps you in writing better programs

7 Blog – I wrote just one blog post on this blog about how we should have breadth of knowledge about tools so we know which one to pick when

8 Standout as a leader – Attended a 6 hour workshop from Ajay Balamurugadas. Investment on learning is important.

9 Interview published with Sachin Sharma from TTC. Are you part of TTC ?

10 A video created to help people in office on how to claim medical bills – value addition #sharingIsCaring

I created an excel sheet named stats and added these headers and my contributions. You can try the same

What Did Not Went well

  • AI Odyssey Challenge – While submitting the challenge I did not submitted the right URL. I was in a hurry that I might be late and could not make to the top 10. So I should be more careful in last part of hackathons / challenges / competition. So always save some time for the important part. You must have seen in Master Chef shows the presentation part in the last
  • There were few assertions I have put which started failing because with new functionality some data can change. So always keep in this mind to take care of test data and new functionality getting added to the system.
  • I maintain a diary where I write the next day plans, so I could write only for ~20 days in it which disturbed the next day without task written in it.
  • Don’t make Class names with standard one like NUnit and you would be getting error which will take lot of time to solve just to realize the silly problems
  • Very much distracted by phone. For some days I kept away and those days went well
  • There was a chart which was same for many days on dashboard. On investigation i found it was not updated at all. So don’t go by fancy things. do check them, all that’s green is not Grass.

What can be made better

  • More check in in Git hub, just 1 in a month is not good.
  • Check in not just for code but for testing notes too need to be added.
  • Number of blog was just 1, which was not the number I committed to myself.
  • Deep work is the one thing I want to develop this year and increase focus so I can be more productive in less hours

Some more things were planned which were not started, let me keep them secret.

You can start doing some of these things and they will help you too.

Thank you if have read till here. Do leave your email to stay updated and subscribe to my channel and this blog.
